James Malarney

President

James Malarney has been a part of the Vanguard team since 1964. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree that same year and became a Doctor of Jurisprudence through Indiana University, Indianapolis in 1971. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1960 to 1966. He is an active member of the Indiana Bar as a labor attorney. James has been involved with Vanguard from its early stages and has worked in the recruiting, start-up operations, and sales aspects of the company. Between 1965 and 1967, he worked with Vanguard as an over-the-road casual driver. He began serving Vanguard as an Operations Manager, and he has been President and CEO of Vanguard since 1990. As an attorney, James has been successfully involved in several landmark employment law cases.

Jeanne Brady

Secretary/Treasurer

Jeanne Brady, CPA, joined Vanguard in June 1976, after spending over six years in public accounting. She graduated from Marian College, Indianapolis, and received her CPA certificate 2 years later, having worked full time in public accounting while finishing her degree. Jeanne started as Controller and has become Corporate Secretary and Treasurer. She is past president (1975-1976) and president again (2005-2006) of the Indianapolis Chapter of American Society of Women Accountants. She also serves as chair of the Corporate Finance Member Section Advisory Council of the Indiana CPA Society.

Dennis Mulvaney

VP of Operations

Dennis Mulvaney joined Vanguard in 1984. Dennis worked in the trucking industry in various capacities after graduating from Indiana University in 1974. Dennis has been a Dock Supervisor, City Dispatcher, Freight Salesman, Freight Broker, and Regional Manager for a truckload carrier. After joining Vanguard, Dennis worked as the Safety Manager before moving into operations. Before being promoted to Corporate Director of Operations in 2002, Dennis was the Midwest Area Manager with responsibility for over 500 employees. As Director of Operations, Dennis is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company. Dennis has experience in dealing with most trucking and personnel issues from EEOC to NLRB matters.

Michael Malarney

Vice President, General Counsel

Michael Malarney began working for Vanguard in 1993 as a leased employee verifying freight content on the dock of a Vanguard client. Several months before joining Vanguard, Michael graduated from Purdue University in 1993. In July of 1994, Michael obtained his CDL as a condition to joining Vanguard’s management staff in the South Carolina office. His CDL aided him in recruiting and identifying with drivers. Michael served as an Operations Coordinator for two years in the Southeast office in South Carolina. In 1996, Michael moved to the Midwest Office in Indianapolis. While in the Midwest office, Michael held the positions of Account Manager and Midwest District Manager. In 2001, he was transferred to the Corporate Office. Michael became a Doctor of Jurisprudence through Indiana University, Indianapolis in 2004. Michael is a board member of the Driver Employer Council of America, board member of the Indiana Motor Truck Association and a member of the National Private Truck Council (NPTC). In 2007 Michael earned the status of Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) through the NPTC.

John Creager

Vice President and CFO

John Creager graduated from Purdue University in 1991. John joined Vanguard as an Account Manager in January of 1993. In this position he was responsible for the Northwest Indiana/Greater Chicago area as well a Southern Michigan/Detroit. John was promoted to District Manager in July of 1997. In September of the same year, John was responsible for opening a District Office in Highland, Indiana. In July of 2001, John transferred to the Corporate Office. In September he became the Director of Benefits and PEO Services. John earned his M.B.A from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in May of 2004. John is a the Vice President of the Driver Employer Council of America, a member of the Indiana Motor Truck Association and a member of the National Private Truck Council (NPTC). In 2007 John earned the status of Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) through the NPTC.

Bridget Susemichel

Director of Risk Management

Bridget graduated from the University of Arizona in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Bridget began working for Vanguard in 1991 as a Safety Coordinator in the Safety Department at the Corporate Office. In July of 1997, Bridget transferred to our Midwest Operations office to become an Account Manager. Bridget has been a member of the National Safety Council. In 1998, she became a certified instructor of the Defensive Driving Course for the Professional Driver where she trained over 100 employees in improving their driving skills. In 2001, Bridget was transferred back to the Corporate Office to takeover the Risk Manager position and again making Safety her main focus. She is currently responsible for procuring, managing and maintaining all of the insurances (other than fringe benefits) necessary for our business, with particular emphasis on workers' compensation insurance coverage. She received her insurance license in April of 2002. Among her other duties as Risk Manager, Bridget aids the Safety Department in reviewing safety and loss control programs and helps to determine where improvements can be made.

Jennifer Creager

Director of Fringe Benefit Programs and Corporate Human Resources

Jennifer Creager graduated from Purdue University in 1997 with a Liberal Arts degree specializing in English and Communications. After graduation she accepted a job with Sears as a Management Trainee in Dallas, Texas. Jennifer joined Vanguard as a part-time employee in 1998 as an assistant to the Controller. By February of 1999, Jennifer became a full-time employee as the Accounts Receivable Coordinator. During this time she also worked closely with the Payroll Department, often assisting in running payroll. In 2001, she was promoted to Manager of Office Administration and Personnel. Jennifer currently handles all corporate payroll, Human Resource, and fringe benefit issues.

Max Clary

Director of Safety

Max Clary joined Vanguard in August of 1983 in the Midwest Operations office in Indianapolis. Max earned his Bachelors Degree in Transportation & Physical Distribution from Western Illinois University prior to his start with Vanguard. Since that time, he has worked in and managed operational offices for the company in Kansas City, MO; Columbus, OH before transferring back to Indianapolis in 2002 to manage and run the Midwest Operations Office. In 2006, Max took over the additional responsibilities in the Safety area while continuing as the Area Manager. Earlier on in 2008, Max became the Director of Safety for Vanguard. As the Director of Safety, he is responsible for all training programs and strategic processes related to Safety along with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Max is an active member of the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) sitting on the NPTC Safety Committee and the National Advisory Board. Max earned his Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) qualification in February 2008. In addition to the NPTC, Max is also a member of the ATA's Safety & LossPrevention Management Council along with the National Safety Council. Vanguard maintains memberships in both the ATA and National Safety Council.

Paul Koscielski

Vice President - Sales

Paul Koscielski leads the sales of Vanguard Services solutions and has over 12 years of sales experience in the supply chain execution industry. Prior to joining Vanguard, Paul was Director of Sales for Navis, LLC, a leading provider of supply chain software and services to marine terminal, ocean carrier, manufacturing and distribution center markets. Paul’s professional history also includes sales positions at Red Prairie and Manhattan Associates, leading providers of warehouse, transportation and labor management software. Paul earned an MBA in Marketing from Butler University and a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.
